Tai Chi

The Tai Chi Chuan covered at PTT is the Short Yang Form done at varying speeds both slow and fast and on both sides. The form lineage is from Cheng Man-ching, student of Yang Chen-Fu. Professor Cheng taught Robert Smith , Ben Lo and Liu His-Hen. I have studied with these men and some of their students, particularly Danny Emerick and Hal Mosher. I follow the orthodox form but I do not follow the teaching protocols established by the above teachers nor do I follow their personal quirks. Along with the form I teach “Push Hands” but not the tournaments variety- I teach the old way- specifically two man training with the eight primary techniques of Ward-Off, Roll Back, Press, Push, Shoulder, Elbow and Chop or “Split”…It is in these techniques that Tai Chi and it’s cousin Ba-gua meet. From here- as is the orthodox teaching- the class goes to Da Lu which is two man training which emphasizes pivoting and steps to four corners. From here we look at weapons with the above techniques but relegated to weapon design. In the Orthodox Yang school the class goes to San-sho which is a specifically choreographed long two man form for drilling various fighting techniques. I intend on bringing in a teacher for this-hopefully Robert Amacker- when the class is ready.
