Khilton
Allen's friend Khilton Nongmaithem is from Manipur, India. Khilton is an expert of some 20+ years at Thang Ta. This martial art was standardized in the 1500's and looks to be an early influence to Shaolin boxing. It features a full esoteric and medical structure along with a large array of weapons including spear-and-shield fighting. Khilton visited me the second weekend of December 1997 and gave a wonderful seminar, as well as returning in 2000.

She and Guru Naba Singha operate the Nritya Rangam, or Temple of Dance - North America's only center for Manipuri (a region in India) traditional arts, including the martial art of Thang-Ta, instructed by Khilton, as noted in the above link.

Dr. Michael Zhang got his degree in contemporary Wushu in mainland China but also acknowledges and understands some of the traditional forms of training as well. His Hsing I is a synthesis of several systems, including the Moslem ones, and his Ba Gua Zhang is from the Cheng Ting-hua lineage. Allen has seen films of his teacher and his Ba-gua, though not a style I have studied - is some of the best I've seen as far as alignment and body dynamics-things not usually noteworthy in the "Wu-shu Ba-gua". Michael is enthusiastic and adapts teaching to his students, unlike many old style hard - line teachers.
